Synthetic Turf Project
FINAL Update on Turf Campaign for Waller Stadium!

Congratulations

Thru your efforts and contributions, Waller Stadium has a new synthetic turf surface that will benefit all of the sports and athletic programs at Mira Costa and provide a sporting alternative for a variety of clubs and teams in the City of Manhattan Beach. About 9am this morning, the Mira Costa football team had their first practice on the new surface. We’ve attached a picture. LA Turf representative Pete Marine, a former collegiate football player, was ready to lace up the shoes, strap on the helmet and hit the practice field but Coach Morrow never asked!!

There are still some extremely important parts of this project yet to be completed:

- While our track contractor, Atlas Asphalt, has finished surfacing both D Zones, we won’t start resurfacing the track until later this week, and the resurfacing will be done in stages to allow players and our crews to continue to access the field;

- We continue to work on the new grass field directly north of the gym – shoring work continues at the very base of the field. You’ll see ongoing activity in the area directly west of the field as – via funding from football boosters – synthetic turf will be installed near the base of the locker room steps.

- Thru funding from football boosters, new mustangs have been painted on the east wall of the football locker room; additionally, the scoreboard and Waller Stadium signs will be repainted, a cost shared by football and the Manhattan Beach Athletic Foundation.

- The area near the pole vault pits will be cleaned up with storage trailers moved to allow placement of small bleachers so the pole vaulters can have a crowd!

Again and as always, thanks to LA Turf, Pete Marine and their subcontractors for their timely performance of this job. Thanks is not enough for Johnnie Morgan – he’s been spectacular as has Field Turf committee members such as Marc and Laura Missioreck, Reed Eisenhauer, Brad and Debbie Koppel, Tana Hausch, Stan Ralls and Rick Palmer. Thanks also to Costa reps Julie Ruisinger, Herb Hinsche and Bob Fish and to all the teams, booster clubs, and individual and corporate donors who made this possible

Stay ready for the September 14th ribbon cutting prior to the Costa – Esperanza game, and remember, the field is available during certain weekend times for lease to local sports groups – cost is $100 per hour and information will be available starting this Wednesday, 08.22, on this Manhattan Beach Athletic Foundation website.

Thanks for your attention this summer! Go Mustangs!
