CHOOSING COURSES:
1. There are six categories of classes offered at Mira Costa High School: Period 1 Semester Review Classes, Period 2 Semester Review Classes, Period 1 Semester Original Credit Classes, Period 2 Semester Original Credit Classes, Yearlong Original Credit Classes and Activities/Physical Fitness Classes. This web page allows you to review the classes offered.
2. First, to get started, read the Helpful Hints below.
3. Then review the class choices . Remember, if you choose a "yearlong" class, then you CANNOT also choose any semester classes. Or, if you choose one or two semester classes, you CANNOT choose a yearlong class.
(If you need a more complete description of any of these classes go to the MCHS website choose “School Documents” from the main menu on the left hand side. Choose “list all” and then from the list locate the PDF of the Course Description Book.)
4. After carefully reviewing your choices and deciding which classes you want to choose, fill out the on-line application.
5. After you have submitted your application, you will automatically be presented with a web page which will allow you to pay for your class choices. Remember, you will NOT be enrolled until you have paid for your clases.
HELPFUL HINTS IN SELECTING A COURSE:
Please note that the Summer Program offers BOTH review classes and original credit classes. (Note: All Review Classes require the student to have taken the requested class during the regular school year. Original Credit Classes are classes the student would be taking for the first time.) MCHS offers high school courses to students for a variety of reasons. We want to help you improve your skills in a particular subject, provide you with an opportunity to make up a course in which you did not fare as well as you had hoped and/or to offer you a chance at academic advancement. Please consider your own reasons carefully when making your class selections, and consult your educational advisor if you have any concerns.
Please remember, yearlong classes taken for the first time should only be attempted by students working well above average. In addition, please follow these guidelines as you select your classes:
MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHOSEN COURSE IS APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR GRADE LEVEL.
DETERMINE WHETHER THE CLASSES YOU HAVE CHOSEN HAVE ANY PREREQUISITES.
SEEK OUT THE SERVICES OF YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR. SHE OR HE CAN BEST GUIDE YOU TOWARD ACADEMIC SUCCESS.
REVIEW THE REFUND POLICY BEFORE REGISTERING FOR CLASSES.
Here is a glossary that helps explain some terms under course listings:
UC...Courses that meet University of California subject requirements.
CSU...Courses that meet California State University subject requirements.
GRADE LEVEL...Indicates the year of high school for which the course is designed.
PREREQUISITE...Indicates a class or condition that you must meet before enrollment in a particular course.
