MCHS Choir Chosen to Taste the Big Apple at Carnegie!
MCHS Choir Director Michael Hayden met his students on the first day of school with an announcement that the Vocal Ensemble had been chosen as the Featured Choir at the “Festival at Carnegie Hall” at Carnegie Hall in New York City. They will perform on March 4, 2012. The Vocal Ensemble was selected from among more than 15 other top choirs nationwide. Upwards of 70 other students from the MCHS choirs have an opportunity to sing in a 400-person festival choir directed by nationally acclaimed director Dr. Anton Armstrong from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Mr. Hayden states: “Every day in the classroom our choirs strive for choral excellence. We all share this daily dedication to being the best choirs we can possibly be. To perform in Carnegie Hall, and also receive the coveted Featured Choir nomination, will make for memories we will share forever. It is a musician’s dream come true.” Not a bad way to motivate students for the year, is it!
As fate would have it, the Carnegie Hall trip immediately follows a previously committed engagement of the Vocal Ensemble to sing at the Western Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Reno, Nevada, which in itself is a prestigious honor.
